      2nd Shift Residential Counselor

      DescriptionWho we are looking for: Are you the Residential Counselor we have been looking for? The Susan Wayne Center of Excellence (SWCE) and the River Run Academy offer intensive residential, educational, medical, and clinical services for adolescent boys and girls who are mild to moderately cognitively impaired with concurrent behavioral, mental health, and medical issues. Located in rural Thompson, Connecticut, our state-of-the-art campus offers warm, home-like facilities in a pastoral setting. Our students have often experienced complex trauma and often have not been successful in other settings. SWCE students typically require additional support in the classroom, as well as with emotional and behavioral difficulties, executive functioning, and life skills. JRI provides the training so that:? - YOU?will provide humane treatment and ensure dignity for all individuals.  
      - YOU will implement all interventions in the most respectful, safest, and least restrictive manner possible. 
      - YOU will follow JRI Code of Conduct and Ethics policies, and JRI policies on confidentiality, including confidentiality of records. 
      - YOU will be trained in a trauma informed, systems based approach to care and implement all crisis intervention techniques following this approach. You will report any violations of these protocols to a program administrator. 
      - YOU will support and follow all Treatment Team decisions. 
      - YOU will provide supervision, training, and assistance to counselors in completing residential assessments and interventions with students. 
      - YOU will assist student with following the daily program schedule, including meals, recreations, housekeeping, chores, and ADLs, and more as listed in full job description.

      Requirements: - Applicants with a four-year college or university degree with major course work in human services, psychology, social work, or sociology are preferred. We will also consider applicants with a combination of a High School Diploma and experience.  
      - Applicants should have the ability to independently plan and organize one’s own schedule and activities to successfully complete all required tasks. 
      - Applicants with mental health program experience with adolescents are preferred.  
      - Applicants with knowledge of basic Microsoft computer systems and internet are preferred. 
      - Applicants must be at least 21 years old. 
      - Applicants must be able to become certified in BCC and American Red Cross CPR/First Aid. 
      - Applicants must be eligible to become certified in Medication Administration for DCF and/or DDS. 
      - Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination. 
      - Applicants must have a valid driver’s license in state of residency and be able to receive approval to drive from JRI insurance to drive for JRI business. 
      - Applicants must be able to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications. 
      - Applicants must be available to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the staffing needs of the program in the event of staffing shortage.  
      - Applicant must be able to meet the requirements of the mandated staff policy if the need arises. 
      - Background and driving record checks will be performed.
